We will briefly review what will be talked about in the sessions ahead – materials, fit and style – and how to plan for your unique perfect pullover.
Let’s take a deep dive into the yarn – there are so many things to think about before we shop! Then we must decide the basics of construction.
In this session we will talk about taking accurate measurements, whether that is measuring yourself or a friend, or maybe doing some math based off your favorite sweater in your closet.
The three main groupings of necklines are round (crew, scoop, cowl etc.); square and V styles, and straight. Let’s decide which type of neckline will work best for our perfect pullover.
Traditionally your neckband, sleeve hem, and garment hem all have the same treatment – although that is not required! In this session we will talk about different hems and cuffs and when to pick them, and address tapered vs. straight sleeves.
One of the fiddliest parts of planning the perfect pullover is addressing the sleeve cap shaping and the armhole – they must work together for a terrific fit. In this session we will go over several styles of armhole shaping and the effect they have on the sleeve caps. We will also talk about the dreaded gauge swatch.

Description

So many of us learn to knit, continue to practice and expand our skills, but then shy away from making garments because we are concerned – what if it doesn’t fit and looks terrible? What if I waste all that time knitting, and all that money purchasing beautiful yarn and I don’t like how my garment turns out?

In this class we are going to take the mystery out of planning the perfect pullover. While it is always more fun to knit than to plan – putting some time in at the beginning will take the nerves out of knitting garments, and you will wind up with a pullover you will be happy to wear or give as a gift – then you can make more!
