Jessica starts off with a review of the tools and materials you'll need for class, including fabrics, floss, needles and hoops. Then she shows you how to hoop up (secure fabric in the hoop) and shares easy ways to transfer designs to light or dark fabric.
Start your first project, a tropical floral wreath, by reviewing key stitches such as the backstitch, satin stitch and stem stitch. Practice the fishbone stitch, before exploring color shading and gradations with the long and short stitch.
Continue stitching your floral wreath as you learn how to make woven wheel roses. Then add detached chain and French knot designs, as well as some finishing touches. Afterwards, Jessica shares ideas for design variations.
Needle (or thread) painting is a truly artful way to embroider. Here, Jessica shows you how to use this technique to create furlike stitching for your second project, a bear cub design. She also shares tips for making expressive animal features including eyes, ears, a snout and couched mouth.
Complete the bear cub design by adding flowers, vines and grass in the background and foreground using the stitches you learned previously. Afterwards, see how to finish the embroidery in the hoop by securing the excess fabric on the back.
Small embroideries make great patches that you can add to garments or accessories. In this final lesson, see how to easily make a flower patch from the floral wreath, plus a small bonus design (or any small design). Jessica also shares ideas to help you create your own designs.
